The Greater Victoria Extreme Weather Protocol has been activated.

Southern Vancouver Island has been hit hard with severe winds knocking out power to thousands of customers throughout the capital region. Winds have reached 100km/h.

The Greater Victoria Extreme Weather Protocol (EWP) is a regional community program developed to address the shelter needs of homeless people during periods of harsh wind, rain, snow, and/or subzero temperatures.

According the the EWP website, there are 395 spaces available tonight.
