Five communities show expression of interest in a Casino – Oak Bay opts out

Share

Back in early October, BCLC asked six communities in Greater Victoria if they would host a casino smaller than View Royal’s.

BCLC says they are now moving into the evaluation phase after receiving expressions of interest from the City of Victoria, District of Saanich, Township of Esquimalt, Esquimalt First Nation and Songhees First Nation to host a gaming facility in their community.

The District of Oak Bay has declined.

A  BCLC statement says it will review population trends, existing community policies, plans or zoning that permit or restrict gaming in a community, and estimated revenue potential in an area.

View Royal’s casino generated $69.3 million in revenue in 2014-15, down from $70.4 million the previous year, BCLC figures show.

The Corporation says a decision will be released in the new year.
