Two students walking along Sooke Road near Edward Milne Community School were rushed to hospital with non-life threatening injuries after being hit by a car.

The incident happened at 11:14 a.m. on Edward Milne Road, where a white sedan driven by a “new” driver lost control, colliding with students walking along the road, said Sooke RCMP Cpl. Joe Holmes.

They were transported by BC Ambulance to a nearby hospital.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation, however, police say speed and inexperience lead to the accident. There is no indication that alcohol was involved.

According to CTV, counselors at Edward Milne are assisting students who saw the frightening collision, and a letter was sent home to parents of students informing them of the incident.

“On behalf of the EMCS staff and school community, we wish the students a speedy recovery,” the letter reads. “Our thoughts are with all the families at this very difficult time.”
