Transfers eliminated but fares to stay the same

Share

As of April 1, 2016, transfers on local BC transit buses will be eliminated. Passengers will be able to purchase a $5 day pass instead. The pass will allow them to take unlimited bus trips that day.

Following a three year review of fares, the Victoria Regional Transit Commission decided not to make increases, and local rides will stay at $2.50 per trip.

The Commission has decided to eliminate transfers to reduce conflict between passengers and transit operators and the possibility of fraud.

Also approved today by the Victoria Regional Transit Commission was an initiative to provide all refugees that relocate to Greater Victoria in the next year with a temporary transit pass for their first year of settlement. The motion was brought forward by Kenya Rogers, the Director of External Relations with the U-Vic Student Society.

Other changes coming April 1st:

  • There will no longer be youth or senior “discount” ticket sheets (at $15 for 10 tickets).
  • They will now be $22.50 for the ticket sheet for all age classes.
BC Transit will also no longer be issuing the “Multi-Month Youth Pass” that public school students often use.
