The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the second foot found by a person walking on the beach near Port Renfrew on February 12 matches the first foot found by a hiker nearby on Botanical Beach on February 7th.
The person was aware of the first foot that had been found, and immediately contacted authorities.
Both the shoes are a blue and black New Balance men’s size 12. The shoes were first sold in North America between March 2013 and December 2015. Both feet detached from the body naturally after being immersed in water for an extended period of time.
BC Coroners said there is no indication of trauma or of mechanical severance of the feet.
The BC Coroners Service says they’re working with regional coroners and the police to determine the identity of the person and a cause of death.
These are the 13th and 14th feet that have washed up along the B.C. coastline since 2007.
The BC Coroners Service has been able to identify 10 of the previous 12 feet, belonging to seven individuals. No foul play was involved with those cases.
