Share

An overflow crowd packed Langford Council Chambers on February 4, 2013 and cheered enthusiastically when the City of Langford announced it had partnered with YMCA/YWCA to build a new aquatic centre at City Centre Park in Langford.

At the time of the announcement, Langford Mayor Stew Young said this complex would be the biggest project in the history of Langford, creating jobs and economic activity and provide world-class recreational opportunities for Langford residents and families.

Three years later, the project is nearing completion. The complex, which includes a lap pool, lazy river, warm water therapy pool, waterslide, health and fitness facility and daycare centre, is slated for completion in February 2016.

According to an email sent out, the new YMCA facility in Langford should be opening during the second half of April.

The cost for the aquatic centre is estimated at between $25 and $30 million.
