On Monday, the B.C. government applied to the B.C. Supreme Court for an injunction to disband the campsite from the lawns of the Victoria courthouse.

A court order by the province is requesting the Supreme Court to order campers at tent city to remove tents, structures, and items from the Victoria courthouse lawns by 5pm on March 14.

The tentative hearing for the injunction has been set for March 10 in B.C. Supreme Court.

The homeless campers at “InTent City” on Victoria’s courthouse lawn, were served notices on February 5th, from provincial representatives, asking them to vacate the area by February 25.  However many stayed and a rally took place later in the day.

According to Housing Minister Rich Coleman many of the tents are now empty, after approximately 60 people were moved into various shelters.

It’s estimated that about 30 to 40 people remain at the campsite.
