West Shore RCMP are investigating what they describe as a dug deal gone bad, after a 40-year-old Duncan man admitted himself to hospital on Monday with a gunshot wound.

The man is currently at Victoria General Hospital and in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.

RCMP were notified by hospital staff of the injury and the investigation began from there. Police say the victim met with another man and woman in a gravel parking lot in the 2800 block of the Trans Canada Hwy in Langford.

We believe this to be a case of a drug deal gone wrong,” states Cst. Alex Bérubé, spokesperson of the West Shore RCMP, We do not believe that the public is at risk at this time.

A male suspect pulled a handgun and attempted to rob the victim. A brief struggle ensued with the firearm being discharged in the victim’s leg.

The male suspect is: in his late 30’s; 6’2’’ tall; weighing 150-160lbs. He was wearing a dark baseball cap, blue jeans with a hoodie at the time.

The RCMP Major crime unit is leading the investigation with the assistance of the Island District RCMP Forensic Identification Services and the RCMP Police Dog Services.

Anyone with information is urged to contact West Shore RCMP or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
