View Street parkade to close March 5 – 13 for improvements

Share

This weekend, the City of Victoria will begin work to enhance the frontage of View Street Parkade, located in the 700 block of View Street, to increase public safety and improve operations and aesthetics.

To accommodate construction, View Street Parkade will close at 5 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, and re-open at 5am on Monday, March 14.

Currently, View Street Parkade lacks entrance and exit gates, and has poor sightlines for pedestrians who use the sidewalk and for motorists entering and exiting the parkade.

In preparation to install new entrance/exit gates at the parkade this spring, the City of Victoria will be widening the sidewalk and curb area fronting the parkade.

This enhancement will improve sightlines and increase public safety by creating greater separation between pedestrians and vehicles. Once installed, the new entrance and exit gates will also improve operations.

Of the City’s five parkades, View Street Parkade is currently the only one without entrance/exit gates.

Additional frontage improvements will include decorative concrete, landscaping and a refresh of lane markings on View Street.

Parking availability and a positive parking experience are essential to supporting a safe, active and vibrant downtown.

During construction, the City will make every effort to minimize impacts to local businesses, parking customers, pedestrians and cyclists.
