A suspect involved in a sexual assault near Uptown has been arrested after the victim spotted him on a BC Transit bus.
On March 5, 2016 at around 11:15PM Saanich Police responded to a call by a woman, who stated she had been sexually assaulted in the area of Carey Rd/Ravine Way.
The woman had been walking in the area, when she was approached from behind by an unknown man. The man grabbed her arm and then grabbed her breast. He then fled on foot towards Cadillac Ave.
Numerous Officers flooded the area to search for the suspect, however this was unsuccessful.
On Monday March 14, 2016, shortly before 11:00AM, the victim was on a BC Transit bus when she spotted the suspect sitting at the back of the bus.
She alerted the BC Transit operator that the suspect was currently on the bus. Saanich Police were contacted, the operator stopped the bus and waited for police to arrive.
Saanich Police arrived within minutes and spoke to the victim, who was able to clearly identify the suspect. A 33 year old Saanich man, who is known to police was arrested.
The accused appeared in court today with Saanich Police recommending one count of Sexual Assault.
“The survivor of this incident is an incredibly brave woman. She managed to talk about the incident, with the BC Transit driver, in order for the suspect to be brought into custody,” A/Sgt. Jereme Leslie said.
Saanich Police are also hailing BC Transit for their quick actions.
