BC Ferries have sold 52 year-old MV Tenaka to a Port Alberni company.

The 43-metre MV Tenaka was built in 1964 at Victoria Machinery Depot and primarily serviced the Quadra Island – Cortes Island route.

The vessel was taken out of service in December of 2014.

BC Ferries says, Lady Rose Marine Services will take possession of the vessel in mid-May.  The company intends to put the boat into service by the end of this year, providing passenger and freight service from the Alberni Inlet.

The sale price cannot disclosed for the MV Tenaka to protect the competitive bid processes for two other ferries the will retire soon and offered for sale.

It will carry both passengers and freight for the company, which has provided service from Alberni Inlet to Bamfield and Ucluelet for more than 70 years, said owner Mike Surrell.
