A Candlelight Walk to Remember Fallen Officer taking place on Sunday

Share

After the tragic events that unfolded Tuesday morning, that took the life of 32-year-old West Shore RCMP Cst. Sarah Beckett, one longtime Langford resident decided to arrange a candlelight walk from the crash scene on Goldstream to Veterans Memorial Park.

Not long after Ryan Carveth created the Facebook event, nearly 700 people said they would be attending with another 644 saying they were interested.

“I’ve lived in Langford my whole life so this really hit me close. I didn’t know Sarah but we all feel the pain here. I thought a candlelight walk would be a way for our community to come together to pay respects, say goodbye and thank you to a devoted officer, wife, mother and friend to many,” Ryan Carveth tells Victoria Buzz.

“We are a strong city and one which will remember those devoted to helping all of us.”

Anyone wishing to join the candlelight walk is asked to meet at the intersection of Peatt Rd and Goldstream this Sunday at 8:30 pm.

Carveth says they will have some extra candles, but asks anyone attending to bring one.

There will be a short statement, then once all the candles are lit the walk will commence to Veterans Memorial Park where people can gather, talk and share memories as a community.

When: Sunday April 10, at 8:30 pm
Where: Peatt Rd and Goldstream Ave
