Saanich council is asking the province to rethink the partial cloverleaf plan for the McKenzie Interchange due to the design’s impact on Cuthbert Holmes Park.
Many residents said they feared for the future of the park once the interchange carves 1.4 hectares from it.
The motion was brought forward by councillor Vic Derman. The debate went on for hours and was approved by a vote of six to three.
Mayor Richard Atwell voted against the rejection of the cloverleaf, as did councillors Leif Wergeland and Susan Brice.
