Update: RCMP are suspending the search in the Highlands. However they’re still actively searching for the two suspects. Though not closed, police are still encouraging the public to stay clear of Thetis Lake Park. If you have any information on the two suspects please contact police: two male suspects, wearing dark clothing. One has white shoes, the other is believed to be barefoot.
RCMP have confirmed one suspect in yesterday’s manhunt is Joshua Nicholas Lafleur, from the double-shooting Tuesday night in Sooke – he is the alleged shooter. Police urge the public to call 911 if seen. Do not approach him.
Earlier: A large scale manhunt is underway in the Thetis Lake and Highlands area today. RCMP are advising all residents to stay in their homes and lock their doors.
West Shore RCMP are currently searching for two male suspects, wearing dark clothing, who fled from police earlier today on Lost Lake Rd in the Highlands.
Police were in the course of an ongoing investigation and were looking to speak with the two suspects prior to them fleeing in the bush.
Police had information that the men were possibly armed and dangerous. For this matter, West Shore RCMP is being assisted by Victoria Police, Saanich Police, Saanich Police Canine, the RCMP Emergency Response Team as well as an RCMP helicopter.
The area of search has been expanded to the Thetis Lake area.
Out of abundance of precaution, police are asking the public to now also avoid Thetis Lake to allow police officers to work. West Shore RCMP has also been in contact with the School District 62 and school officials in the area.
Again, advising all residents in this broad searching area to stay inside their homes and lock their doors as precautionary measures. #yyj
