If we measure success by crowd size, the second annual Car Free YYJ was an overwhelming success – just like it was in its inaugural year.
Due to last year’s success, organizers increased the size of the street event by adding an additional three blocks.
Up to 35,000 people took in the car free event, which featured 364 stalls, four stages and three beer gardens. A portion of Douglas Street was converted into a park – where 5,000 square feet of sod was laid, offering a place for people to sit and enjoy the festival with seating and landscaping.
Music acts included Acres of Lions, Ahousaht Dancers, Animal Kingdom by Surrounded by Cedar, Carmanah, Coastline, Coffee Eyes, Dave Lang & the Insolent Rabble, Dirty Mountain, Dope Soda, Eryn Sharpe Trio, Fallbrigade, Isobel Trigger, Joy District, Kwa’kwa’ ka wa kw Dancers, Le La La Dancers, Lovecoast, Metis Jiggers, Mike Edel, Quoia, San Felix, The New Groovement, Tilted Frame, Unity Drummers & Singers, and Zoo Riots.
The vibe on the street was very positive.
