After what appears to have been a brief respite, Saanich Police believe the suspect involved in a recent string of indecent acts and sexual assaults in the Gordon Head area is back, after two more incidents were reported on Monday in the same area.
Shortly after 5 pm, a male suspect followed a female into the women’s washroom in Mt. Douglas Park in the lower parking area, and hid in a stall next to her. He was later observed masturbating outside of the washroom.
A short time later, a female walking on a path in the park was touched inappropriately by a suspect male on a bicycle. Police believe the two incidents are likely related.
After further investigation and media attention, other incidents that could be attributed to the suspect male have been brought forward.
Investigators found on June 13, a suspect was observed masturbating in Mt.Douglas Park and on June 27, a suspect grabbed a woman’s buttocks near Quadra and Tattersall.
Furthermore, after hearing the news, two more females contacted police to report potential interactions with the suspect male.
On July 10, 2016, a female jogger near Blair and Larchwood was harassed by a male on a bicycle.
The physical description and area of incident are consistent with the known suspect behaviour.
The second female reported a male coming out of the bushes with his pants undone in Mt. Doug Park last Wednesday.
To date, there have been 11 cases where the suspect male could be responsible for these interactions with female members of the public.
Police believe all cases are the work of a lone suspect male.
“We are concerned about these ongoing incidents, and want to identify the person responsible. As park users, it is imperative that people feel safe when enjoying the many open public spaces in Saanich.”
