Earlier this afternoon Major League Baseball announced that Victoria’s Michael Saunders, a Blue Jays standout this year, will be going to the All-Star game later this month, thanks to online fan voting.
Saunders was a nearly unanimous choice of all voters in Canada, riding #VoteCaptainCanada all the way to the Midsummer Classic.
The 29-year-old Saunders started his baseball career playing Little League in the Gordon Head Baseball Association. While attending Lambrick Park Secondary, he played high school-level baseball for the Victoria Mariners of the British Columbia Premier Baseball League.
Just two months ago, Cleve Dheensaw of the Times Colonist profiled his career.
Congratulations to Michael Saunders on winning the Final Vote! Thank you fans! #VoteCaptainCanadahttps://t.co/ciaR4cpsEX
