Those involved in the death a Victoria man on the Songhees First Nation last year will not be charged with any crime.
Kyle Syrenne, was walking from his house on Admirals Road around 4:30 am on February 21, to his girlfriend’s house on Ned Williams Road, when a taxi pulled up next to him.
Four people got out of the cab and asked the driver to return in 10 minutes.
According to witnesses, he was swarmed and attacked. During the altercation, Syrenne fell, striking his head on the ground. He was transported to hospital, but Syrenne, 26, succumbed to his injuries three days after the altercation.
Those involved in the fight were identified and charges were put forward.
The crown prosecutor opted not to proceed with charges, saying in a statement released yesterday that there was little chance of conviction, citing the case was complicated by conflicting descriptions of what happened.
The case is now considered closed unless new evidence is brought forth by investigators.
