There will be many road closures around the capital region this Sunday as about 1,500 cyclist from all over enjoy world-class cycling routes and take in the breathtaking scenery.

The annual Ryder Hesjedal’s Tour de Victoria bike ride takes place on Sunday, Aug. 21, from approximately 7pm to 3:30pm. Riders will use a dedicated lane and weave through streets of Victoria, the West Shore and the Saanich Peninsula.

Roads are going to be affected as the cyclists will be following routes of 45Km, 85km or 140km. Drivers can expect moderate delays of up to 20 minutes between 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on the Pat Bay Highway (Highway 17) at Sayward Road.

Minor delays and traffic pattern changes can also be expected on Willis Point Road and Highway 14 between Happy Valley Road and Glen Lake Road.

The 140-km ride starts at 7 a.m. on Belleville Street, the 85-km ride gets underway about 9 a.m. from Western Speedway in Langford, and the 45-km ride begins about 11 a.m. from Iroquois Park in Sidney. All of the routes end downtown.

The entire event is expected to be complete by 3:30 p.m.

Road Closure info:

Victoria: Between 6:50am – 7:10am and 8:20am – 8:44am Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Belleville St, Government St, Gorge Rd E

Saanich: Between 7:05am – 7:20am and 8:35am – 8:55am Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Gorge Rd West.

View Royal: Between 7:10am – 7:30am and 8:40am – 9:00am. Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Island Hwy and Old Island Hwy.

Colwood: Between 7:15am – 8:05am. Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Ocean Blvd, Lagoon Rd, Metchosin Rd.

Metchosin: Between 7:30am – 9:00am. Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Metchosin Rd, Duke Rd, William Head Rd, Lombard Dr, Rocky Point Rd, Liberty Dr, Lindholm Rd, Happy Valley Rd.

Langford – Between 7:55am – 9:30am: Happy Valley Rd, Glen Lake Rd, Leigh Rd, Dunford Ave, Station Ave, Atkins Ave: Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on.

View Royal: Between 8:15am – 9:40am. Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Atkins Ave and Burnside Rd W.

Saanich: 8:15am – 9:50am. Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Burnside RdW, Prospect Lake Rd, and Munn Rd.

Highlands: 8:20am – 11:00am.

Munn Rd: Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on.

Millstream Lake Rd and Ross Durrance Rd (between Munn Rd and Willis Point Rd.): Northbound traffic only. This is THE SAME DIRECTION as our cyclists.

Willis Point Rd: Two-Way Traffic will be permitted on Willis Point Rd controlled by Traffic Control personnel to allow residents from Millstream Rd and Willis Point Rd to exit to Wallace Dr

Saanich: 8:45am – 11:15am.  Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Wallace Dr. (Two-Way Traffic will be permitted on Willis Point Rd controlled by Traffic Control personnel to allow residents from Millstream Rd and Willis Point Rd to exit to Wallace Dr)

Central Saanich: 8:50am – 11:30am.  Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on Wallace Dr, Garden Gate Dr, Benvenuto Ave, West Saanich Rd, and Old West Saanich Rd. (Two-way traffic will be permitted on West Saanich Rd)

Saanich (West of Bay Pay Hwy #17): 9:00am – 1:20pm.  Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on with two-way traffic allowed on West Saanich Rd when needed.  Cyclists travel on Old West Sannich Rd, Spartan Rd, Prospect Lake Rd, Burnside Rd, Charlton Rd, Granville Ave, Hastings St, North Rd, Interurban Rd, Hector Rd, Conway Rd,  Quayle Rd, Beaver Lake Rd, West Saanich Rd, Old West Saanich Rd, Oldfield Rd, Doyle Rd, Forest Hill Rd, Elkwood Rd, Brookleigh Rd and Hamsterly Rd.

Saanich: Pat Bay Hwy #17 and Sayward Rd: 9:40am – 1:20pm. Intersection will be controlled by Traffic Control Personnel. Traffic will still be able to travel the Pat Bay Highway both northbound and southbound, but please expect some delays. East bound traffic on Sayward Rd will be closed on both sides of the Pat Bay Hwy.

Saanich (East of Pat Bay Hwy #17): 9:40am – 2:15pm. Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on. Cyclists travel on Sayward Ave, Cordova Bay Rd, Ash Rd, Grandview Dr, Ferndale Rd, Gordon Head Rd, Arbutus Rd, Queenswood Dr, Telegraph Bay Rd, Cadboro Bay Rd.  Please note that Cadboro Bay Rd, between Sinclair Rd and Beach Drive will allow two-way traffic where needed to relieve traffic build up.

Oak  Bay: 10:00am – 2:50pm. Full road closure on Beach Drive, and King George Terrace. However, residents of Beach Dr, King George Terrace and roads that can only be accessed by through these roads will still have access to their homes. Traffic Control Personnel will allow residents to access their homes when there are breaks in the cyclists. Access to Royal Victoria Yacht Club, Oak Bay Marina, Oak Bay Beach Hotel and Victoria Golf Club will be controlled by Traffic Control Personnel.

Victoria: 10:25am – 3:15pm. Full road closures on Crescent Rd, Hollywood Cres, Dallas Rd and waterfront perimeter of James Bay including: Erie St, St Lawrence St, Kingston St, Montreal St, Quebec St, Pendray St, and Belleville St.

Any resident that live on a waterfront road or road that can only be access by a waterfront road, will still have access to their homes. Traffic Control Personnel will allow residents to access their homes when there are breaks in the cyclists.

Sidney & North Saanich 11:00am – 11:20am. On 5th Ave and Lochside Dr. Vehicle traffic will be permitted in both directions. Please drive with caution as there will up to 300 cyclists riding from Sidney Lions Food Bank southbound towards Central Saanich.

Central Saanich: 11:10am – 12:00pm: Lochside Dr, Martindale Rd, Welch Rd, Hunt Rd: Vehicle traffic permitted in the opposite direction our cyclists will be travelling on.

Victoria Inner Harbour:
