Share

Sooke RCMP are looking to speak with a man who offered licorice to a group of young kids on Steeple Chase in Sooke – they are calling it a “suspicious circumstance.”

The incident happened on Saturday August 27, between 1:15 – 1:45 p.m.

Police said two groups of children between the ages of 5 and 10 years old were approached by the man in a truck and were offered red licorice.

The man is described as being bald with stubble from the ears down. He has bad teeth, and two very distinctive tattoos on his right arm. The right forearm had a snake that was either all red or a tongue that was red, while the right bicep had a crisscross design that goes around the bicep.

The truck is described as a newer model white Ford, extended cab. There was construction material and tools in the truck bed, and had a metal rack.

Police are reminding parents of the importance of having regular safety discussions with children, about speaking to, and accepting gifts from strangers.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sooke RCMP at 250-642-5241 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
