Young buck dead after being attacked by two dogs in Gordon Head

A young buck is dead after being viscously attacked by two large dogs in Saanich on Tuesday.

The Saanich Pound is looking to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident that occured in the 4300-block of Gordon Head Road around 1:30 p.m.

The pound were told by a witness, two large “Samoyed-looking” dogs chased down the deer and attacked it.

When inspectors arrived on scene, they located a young badly injured buck. The injuries were so severe the buck had to be put down, police said.

The two dogs involved in the attack couldn’t be located.

“Dogs are pack animals however attacks like this are extremely rare.” Pound Inspector Sue Ryan said. “This is the only report we’ve received of these dogs and we would like to speak to the owner about control and containment.”
