New regulations for Victoria’s medical marijuana dispensaries in effect

Share

On Thursday night, City Council approved The Storefront Cannabis Retailer Rezoning Policy. As of today, September 23, marijuana dispensaries will have to obtain a $5,000 business license and apply for rezoning at a cost of $7500 which takes around 6-8 months to process.

The new rules also stipulate age limits of customers – (nobody under 19), shorter store hours, security plans among others.

Storefront cannabis retailers that began operation after July 28, 2016 must comply with the new regulations immediately. According to the new policy, these businesses cannot operate until their rezoning application has been approved by City Council.

Those that were in operation prior to July 28, 2016 may continue to operate while making progress towards a rezoning, however they must comply with operational requirements immediately.
