One last Summer feast: The 2016 Esquimalt Ribfest

Share

Are you looking to fill your belly with delicious food one last time before summer is over? If so, the 2016 Esquimalt Ribfest is exactly what you’re looking for.

The event features ribs and recipes from across the country and runs from Friday, September 9th to Sunday, September 11th.

This year’s event will have six different Ribbers (a chef that specializes in preparing grilled food):

  • Misty Mountain
  • Prairie Smoke & Spice BBQ
  • Gator BBQ
  • Boss Hog’s
  • Smoke and Bones
  • Blazin BBQ

The Ribbers will smoke ribs, chicken and beef and compete against each other for various titles. Last year first place ribs went to Prairie Smoke & Spice, while best sauce went to Misty Mountain, and the People’s Choice award went to Boss Hog’s.

There’s also a variety of local beer and cider available from local brewers including: Four Mile Brewery, Driftwood Brewery, Hoyne Brewing, Lighthouse Brewing Company, Turning Point Cider and Stanley Park Brewing.

The event takes place at Bullen Park and entrance is free (entrance donation suggested). However, the delicious food and beverages do require fees to enjoy.

The event is family-friendly and even includes a Kid Zone featuring bouncy castles, crafts, and games.

There will be live music from a variety of local acts including three headlining acts: The Sutcliffes (Friday night), The Boom Booms (Saturday night) and Paul Deslauriers (Sunday night).

The festival’s mandate is “To host a fun, family event and raise charitable money for Esquimalt.” A portion of the funds raised will go towards the Esquimalt Firefighters Charitable Fund.

To date, the Esquimalt Ribfest has raised more than $120,000 for local charities. Almost 40,000 people attended last year’s event.

Parking is available, but limited. There is a free shuttle that runs downtown Victoria to Ribfest. You can find more online at Esquimalt Ribfest.
