Victoria police are looking for witnesses after a man was arrested Sunday for two apparently random assaults.

Officers were called around 7 a.m. to Langley Street, after two witnesses saw a man punch another man to the ground, causing life-threatening injuries to him.

When the suspect left, one of the two witnesses stayed with the victim, and the other followed the suspect from a distance to Fort Street, between Blanshard and Quadra streets.

The suspect then assaulted and robbed a second person on Fort Street.

The witness who was still following the suspect spoke with the second victim,  who sustained non-life-threatening injuries,  and then continued to follow the suspect to a Douglas Street alley and saw him change his clothes.

The suspect headed back towards Fort Street where officers were able to locate and arrest him.

Police said the suspect changed his clothes a number of times in the course of the incidents and was carrying a skateboard.

If you have any information you are asked to call the VicPD non-emergency line at (250) 995-7654, or call CrimeStoppers at 1(800) 222-8477 to report what you know anonymously.

He remains in custody.
