West Shore RCMP arrested an intoxicated 22-year-old Colwood man on Saturday, at the Westshore Rebels football game, after he allegedly threw a cup of coffee at a Nanaimo Raiders football player on the sideline.

Police were called to the Westhills stadium around 9 p.m, after security had escorted the man who threw coffee in the face of the Raiders quarterback, 18-year-old Jake Laberge.

He was shaken by the incident, but uninjured and played the rest of the game.

This disgraceful act was apparently motivated by a bet with the suspect’s friends, states Cst. Alex Bérubé, spokesperson of the West Shore RCMP. We are taking this matter very seriously and are taking steps to appropriately deal with this isolated incident.

The suspect has since been released and will make his first court appearance on December 29. He has been banned from attending any future Westshore Rebels football.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264 or CRIMESTOPPERS at 1-800-222-TIPS.
