Victoria to host not one, but two consecutive Canadian baseball championships

Share

A news release issued by the Victoria HarbourCats today revealed that not only had the organization landed the hosting rights for the 2017 Baseball Canada Senior Championship, but that they had also received the nod for the 2018 tournament as well.

It’ll be the first time Victoria has held the national championships, and only the third time a British Columbia city has played host.

HarbourCats managing partner Jim Swanson, as well as team executive Shawn Petriw have worked together in the past to bring the event to Prince George.

The format sees all the provincial champion teams come together for a 4-day tournament in late August each year, to decide the national champion.  The majority of the games, and certainly all playoff games, will be played at Victoria’s Royal Athletic Park.

According to the release, “the host Victoria team will be looking to do what the Prince George Axemen did in 2012, win the national title as hosts on home soil.”

More information, including ticket plans and pricing, will become available after schedules have been set by Baseball Canada in early 2017.
