The playoffs are approaching, and the hockey is fantastic.
“It felt like a playoff game, the intensity level was high, pucks were going to the net, guys were getting hit, it was an awesome game – but a tough one for sure.” Royals forward Tyler Soy noted following a physical 2-1 victory.
I’ll be honest, no matter how heartbreaking last year’s playoffs was, it was an incredible display of the grit and determination these young men have. Last night’s game was a pleasant reminder of the type of hockey that is played once the season hits February, and it should be much of the same tonight. All 40 of those kids out there wanted that game badly.
The other team probably didn’t like Griffen Outhouse very much last night
The Royals were outshot 42-22 last night, and while many were from the perimeter, Outhouse made two key stops during overtime and was a brick wall throughout the shootout.

Safe to say his first star of the game was pretty deserving.
Tyler Soy’s season-long point streak
Soy is among our beloved Royals who have been drafted by an NHL club, and his season record 12-game point streak is a prime example of why. Last night’s assist kept the run alive, and it was off of Matthew Phillips’ 39th goal of the season that the streak continued.
Soy’s assist gives him 3 straight seasons with at least 30 assists or more, and over his last 12 games he’s thrown down a preposterous 8 goals and 14 assists for 22 points.
I don’t think I could get 22 points over 12 games of pickup basketball, let alone the world’s top junior league. This kid is good.
