Surveillance cameras capture theft in Colwood

A Colwood homeowner has released surveillance video showing two men stealing a $1800 wood chipper from his backyard on Friday morning.

The incident happened on Sooke Road near Royal Roads University. Dave Healy released the footage with hopes the public can help identify the alleged suspects.

Security cameras caught the first man walking up to the home and knocking on the front door, presumably checking to see if anybody was home.

He knocked again after about 20 seconds before making his way to the backyard of the home.

A second security camera captures the same man making his way in the backyard.

The footage shows him heading up the back deck and glancing inside the home. Seconds later, he is seen walking back down the stairs and towards the wood chipper located in the center of the yard.

He is seen uncovering the chipper and then moving it to the front of the home.

Healy tells Victoria Buzz the man left the property without the chipper but returned about ten minutes later, with a friend in a blue truck.

The security cameras show the truck pulling into the driveway, being driven by the second alleged thief. The video shows the second man hopping out of the truck and pushing the vehicle back towards the awaiting wood chipper.

The two men loaded the chipper into the truck, which isn’t captured on camera, but the footage does show the wood chipper in the back of the truck as they drove away.

Healy hopes with the security footage; he can get his wood chipper back soon.

The brand of the chipper is a Bearcat and is orange in colour.
