In a few hours, Sidney will be bustling with Canada Day activities, but before the sun sets, you might notice a different addition to the coastal views: a $75 million yacht.
Victoria Buzz did some investigating and found out the boat’s name: Sea Owl.
The 203-foot mega yacht belongs to computer scientist Robert Mercer. He’s a co-CEO of Renaissance Technologies and one of the world’s top-earning hedge fund managers. Sea Owl has 15 cabins in all – six for the owner and guests and nine for the 18 crew members.
The Sea Owl has won praise for its onboard security system. Featured in Yachting Magazine in June 2013, writers called the system “possibly the most elaborate ever built into a yacht”.
Little else is known about the boat. Mercer keeps it relatively shrouded in secrecy. But if you’re heading up the Pat Bay Highway this weekend and you want to see what tens of millions of dollars can buy, keep an eye out.
