A water fight on the last day of the school met an unfortunate end when one boy fell several metres into an air intake.
The boy, believed to be 13-years-old, was shooting water guns with friends when he fell through an open grate. The incident occurred around 9:00 am on Thursday at Dover Bay Secondary School.
According to Nanaimo Fire Rescue, the boy fell over 5 metres, which caused him to suffer injuries to his back and right leg.
Questions remain as to why the air intake was left open.
After a special technical rescue team hoisted the boy up and out, officials cordoned off the area. Worksafe BC is now investigating.
