Nashville Predators player replaces stolen hockey gear for Victoria boy

Share

Nashville Predators defenseman and Brentwood Bay native Matt Irwin has come to the aid of a local boy.

Jason Shemilt posted on Facebook after his son’s hockey gear was stolen from Spencer Middle School. “At this point we cannot afford to replace any of it,” Shemilt wrote. “Most of the gear is brand new this year. If anyone has had some new hockey gear show up… or hears of anything could you please return it to Spencer Middle school no questions asked!”

Irwin Gives Back

Luckily, the post reached Irwin, who, despite being in the midst of the Stanley Cup Finals, reached out to the family and supplied them with new gear.

“It’s more or less just trying to reach out and let him get back out on the ice as soon as he can,” Irwin told TSN. “We know how expensive hockey gear is… [I’m] fortunate to have good friends at CCM that were able to help out.”
