Oak Bay police cleared of any wrongdoing in death of woman found in Bowker Creek

The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) has determined there was no connection between the actions or inactions of police and the death of a female on May 27th, 2017.

In May, the Oak Bay Police Department (OBPD) was investigating a deceased female at Bowker Creek. At that time, the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) was notified as “the police may have interacted with this individual”.

However, today’s report clears the OBPD of any wrongdoing.

“The OBPD understands the importance of maintaining the public’s trust and, in order to do so, we support the need for independent oversight of police,” the Oak Bay Police said in a statement. “We cooperated fully throughout the IIO’s investigation.”

Investigation Update

Oak Bay police also released an update on the woman’s death, saying “Foul play has been ruled out… Thus, the BC Coroner Service is the lead agency and can be contacted for more information regarding the woman and her death. Any questions about our member’s interaction with the woman, the night before her death, should be directed to the IIO.”
