A young boy was the victim of a harrowing knife-point robbery on Sunday. The 13-year-old had his bike stolen, but luckily police tracked down the suspect soon afterwards.

The incident occurred at approximately 4 pm on August 6th in the alleyway near Farquar and Nicol St.

Just after 4 pm the victim’s father called 911 reporting his 13 year old son and a friend had been confronted by a male who produced a knife and demanded the youth turn over his bike.

The suspect then knocked the 13 year old to the ground and rode off on the bike.

The father told police that the boys were not injured but obviously traumatized by the ordeal. The two youths provided an excellent description of the suspect. Numerous officers immediately attended to the area and began searching the area for the suspect and bike.

Suspect Found Within Minutes

Within minutes of the robbery, one of the attending officers located the suspect just 4 blocks from the scene and arrested him. The male suspect was also in possession of the stolen bike.

The suspect was kept in police custody over night and on Monday August 7th he was released on a Recognizance for one count of Robbery; with his next court appearance is set for August 22nd.

“The excellent description provided by the two youths and the rapid response from our officer’s led to the timely arrest and the arrest of the suspect,” said Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.
