A car passenger has sustained serious injuries after the vehicle they were in collided with a tree in Saanich on Sunday.
According to a release, the incident occurred on Burnside Road West in the early morning hours. Emergency services responded after receiving reports the vehicle had left the roadway and struck a tree.
The driver and passenger were still in the vehicle when police arrived. Firefighters and paramedics extricated them.
Both were taken to the hospital. The passenger sustained serious injuries, according to police.
Saanich police forensic identification and collision reconstruction officers are investigating the incident.
A police collision investigator will work to determine if speed, impairment or any other factors were involved.
