Langford to bid for Amazon’s new $5-billion second headquarters

Share

The City of Langford has joined cities all over North America vying to be the home for online retail giant Amazon’s proposed second headquarters.

Mayor Stew Young made the announcement today and has already named a street “Amazon Way”.

The Seattle-based online retailing giant announced earlier this month that it was soliciting bids from cities across North America to house what it calls its “HQ2.”

This entails a $5-billion office complex that could grow to 8 million sq. ft. in size within a number of buildings and employ as many as 50,000 people in high-paying positions, with average annual salaries reaching over $100,000.

Nonetheless, within hours of the Amazon announcement, cities across the nation declared that their cities would be great hosts for the tech giant.

As for Langford, a housing component is of course part of the plan, and it would be in and around Bear Mountain.

Amazon is one of the largest tech employers in the world.

More details to come.
