10 things to do in and around Victoria this weekend: September 8-10

Now that back-to-school week is complete, it’s time to go have fun. Here are 10 things to do this weekend!

Esquimalt Ribfest

  • What: Brews, ribs, live music, and a vintage car show
  • When: Friday: 1pm-10pm. Saturday & Sunday: 11am-10pm.
  • Where: Bullen Park, 1229 Esquimalt Rd.
  • Cost: Free

The Great Canadian Beer Festival

  • What: The longest running, craft-only festival in Canada, GCBF first took place in 1993 at the Victoria Conference Centre with 2000 attendees. The event, now two days long, takes place outdoors at Royal Athletic Park and hosts up to 9000 thirsty, craft beer fans.
  • When:  Friday Sept 8 from 4 – 9pm and Saturday Sept 9 from 12 – 5pm
  • Where: Royal Athletic Park, 1014 Caledonia Ave, Victoria
  • Cost: $40pp incl tax (plus fees). Includes your taster glass, program and BC Transit Get Home Safe bus ticket.  Beer tokens available on site for $1.50 per 4oz taster. Cash-only.

Little American Beer Festival

  • What: To compliment the Great Canadian Beer Festival,  the Drake Eatery will be hosting their 3rd Annual Little American Beer Festival. Showcasing the best US beers they can get their hands on.
  • When: Friday through Sunday
  • Where: The Drake Eatery
  • Cost: Free

Pendray’s Corn Maze Food Bank Fundraiser

  • What: The Pendray’s Corn Maze which sits on 14 acres of the farm’s 25 total acres, features a Canada 150 hockey player and bear designs. The team behind the maze are hosting a food bank fundraiser during their opening weekend.
  • When: Saturday, 10am-9pm.
  • Where: Pendray’s Corn Maze, 9537 West Saanich Road.
  • Cost: General Admission: $12. Kids (3-12 years): $5

Art Battle Victoria

  • What: “ Join Art Battle for an evening of creativity and community, showcasing local artists and connecting Victoria to towns and cities around the world! All Victoria AB events are ALL AGES with a 19+ bar.”
  • When: Friday, 7pm-11pm.
  • Where: Victoria Event Centre, 1415 Broad Street.
  • Cost: Student/Senior: $15; Adult: $20.

Canadian Women – 150 years of strength and beauty Fashion show

  • What: An event showcasing Canadian women, live music and a collection of meticulously researched, historically accurate fashion.
  • When: Saturday, 7pm show. Sunday, 2pm show.
  • Where: Berwick Royal Oak, 4680 Elk Lake Drive.
  • Cost: $27. Buy tickets here.

6th Annual Cars, Rods and Rides

  • What: For the 6th year in a row the Celebration of Lights Committee will be pulling together some of the coolest cars, hot rods and motorcycles around to raise funds for the annual Christmas light up and parade.
  • When: Saturday, 10am-2pm.
  • Where: Archie Browning Sports Center parking lot
  • Cost: Free

Vibestreet Fall Open House

  • What: Vibestreet Dance Studio will be opening their studios up to the community for a day of FREE classes and fun! This is the perfect time to see what VSD is all about!
  • When: Saturday, 1pm-5pm.
  • Where: Vibestreet Dance Studio, 1322 Broad Street.
  • Cost: Free

Urban Food Garden Tour

  • What: Take the self-guided Urban Food-Garden Tour and visit your choice of diverse home food gardens across Greater Victoria.
  • When: Saturday, 10am-4pm.
  • Where: Locations vary; self guided. Check link for details.
  • Cost: $16.52

Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope

  • What: The Ovarian Cancer Canada Walk of Hope is the largest event of its kind in the country. Held in over 35 communities nationwide, it is the only walk in Canada to direct all attention and fundraising towards overcoming ovarian cancer.
  • When: Sunday, 9:30am start
  • Where: Royal Roads University
  • Cost: Free

50th Anniversary Metchosin Day

  • What: A fun day and free for the whole family. Starting at 8 am the five-kilometer run/walk leaves from the community hall and ends at the Metchosin Community House.  Click here for a full list of activities happening.
  • When: Sunday, September 10, 2017. From 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • Where: Metchosin Municipal Grounds, behind the Fire Hall, 4450 Happy Valley Road.
