20-year-old Victoria man injured in weekend fight recovering in hospital

A 20-year-old Victoria man remains in hospital with non-life threatening injuries after an altercation Saturday night in downtown Victoria.

Police were called to the intersection of Douglas and Broughton Streets just after 10pm, after witnesses reported an altercation between two men.

Media reports suggest the altercation was provoked over a stolen cigarette.

Officers found one man laying on the road suffering from what appeared to be life threatening injuries and he was transported to hospital.

Since then, the injured man’s condition has improved and the injuries are now considered non-life threatening.

The other man involved in the altercation left the scene but returned later.

He was taken into custody, interviewed, and released pending the outcome of the investigation.
