The day of BC Ferries’ lower-deck passenger ban has finally come.
As of today, no passengers will be allowed to remain in cars on closed vehicle decks: one that is closed at both ends with minimal side openings, such as the one pictured below.
Initially, a soft approach to enforcement will be taken, with BC Ferries staff reminding customers of the change in policy, and asking them to comply.
Special Circumstances Allow Upper Car Deck Requests
Customers with special circumstances, such as unique medical challenges or special needs, may request that their vehicle be placed on an upper deck where passengers are permitted to stay.
The ban was initially announced in August.
