Talk about impatient!
Last Thursday, Victoria Police planted a bait bike to catch bike thieves in the core of downtown Victoria.
Surprisingly enough, it took a mere six minutes for the plan to work.
The bike was gone in the time span of 12:46 PM and 12:52 PM, leading officers to quickly catch the suspect.
They recovered the stolen bike from the 800-block of Johnson St, and arrested the man right away.
Several charges recommended
Turns out, the suspect had a different warrant out for his arrest, and was held in custody overnight.
The police are recommending several charges:
- Theft under $5,000
- Possession of stolen property under $5,000
- Possession of a controlled substance
- Two counts of failure to comply with a probation order
The bait bike program was adopted by Victoria Police in 2016 to combat the growing number of bike thefts in the city.
