Here are a few things to do in and around Victoria this Thanksgiving long weekend

Friday

Home opener: Peninsula Panthers vs Westshore Wolves

  • What: Welcome the Peninsula Panthers to their newly renovated arena with the team’s home opener! Taking on the Westshore Wolves, the Panthers will look to improve their 2-4 record after starting the season on a 6-game road trip.
  • When: 7:30pm puck drop
  • Where: Panorama Recreation Center
  • Cost: Adults: $9. Students/seniors: $6.

Super Smash Bros Tournament

  • What: Play video games for a good cause.
  • When: Friday, October 6.  Drop in from 6-6:30 p.m. to sign up for the tournament. The event goes until all the matches are over – usually around 10-11 p.m.
  • Where: Room 112 in the Clearihue Building at UVic
  • Cost:  Donation of canned good(s) for the food bank

Saturday

Zombie Walk

  • What: Rip up some clothes, bathe in some blood (preferably fake), and show off your most treacherous, horrifying face possible. A full zombie hoard will trudge their way through downtown Victoria in search of British Columbia’s finest and most delectable brains.
  • When: Saturday, October 7th; begins at 3pm.
  • Where: Centennial Square
  • Cost: Free

Wake of the Dead Trilogy

  • What: Watch the original Dead Trilogy on the big screen! Costumes are absolutely encouraged as Dead enthusiasts celebrate the life of legendary director George A. Romero.
  • Where: The Roxy Classic, 2657 Quadra St.
  • Cost: $10 per show, or $25 for all three.
  • When: Saturday, October 7th.
    • 5pm, Night of the Living Dead
    • 8pm, Dawn of the Dead
    • 10:30pm, Day of the Dead

Pumpkinfest at Galey Farms

  • What: Watch the original Dead Trilogy on the big screen! Costumes are absolutely encouraged as Dead enthusiasts celebrate the life of legendary director George A. Romero.
  • Where: Galey’s Farm, 4150 Blenkinsop Rd
  • Cost: $10 per show, or $25 for all three.
  • When: This annual event is running October weekends 7th & 8th, 14th & 15th, 21st & 22nd, and 28th & 29th from 10 am to 4 pm.

 

Whitecaps vs Red Bulls at Yates Street Taphouse

  • What: The Southsiders set sail for the second time this season as they come to Victoria for to watch the Vancouver Whitecaps game at Yates Street Taphouse!

    Join the Vancouver Southsiders & the SouthIslanders for their official away viewing party!

  • Where:  Yates Street Taphouse Bar&Grill (759 Yates St)
  • Cost: No entry fee
  • When: Festivities kick off at 11:30am, with the match set to kick off at 2pm.

 

Sunday

 

Watch ‘Dunkirk’ at IMAX Victoria

  • What:  The film has generated tons of buzz since its release earlier this summer and is being hailed by many critics as this year’s cinematic triumph. It was also shot almost exclusively with IMAX cameras and has received praise for its use of cinematography and sound to help tell the story of the Battle of Dunkirk in 1940.
  • Where:  IMAX Victoria
