Central Saanich police believe that a medical emergency caused a driver to lose control on the Patricia Bay Highway, setting off a two-car crash on Tuesday night.
According to Central Saanich Police, the 60-year-old man driving a grey Ford pick-up truck was driving south on the highway at about 6:45 pm when his vehicle collided with a black Dodge pick-up truck, which was in the northbound left turn lane (for Keating Cross Rd) on Hwy 17.

The investigation revealed the driver suffered a medical emergency causing him to veer into the path of the black Dodge.
Police later determined that the 41-year-old lone driver of the black Dodge was impaired by alcohol and was given an immediate 90-day driving prohibition and a mandatory 30-day vehicle impound.
Both drivers were taken to hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.
