Saanich Police warning residents after cougar and bear sighting

Saanich Police say over the past two days they received a report of a cougar sighting in the 300-block of Willis Point Road, and also a bear sighting in the 1600-block of Charlton Road.

On Friday, the black bear was seen roaming along the side of the road around 8 PM. It did not show any signs of aggression.

The following day, Saanich police said they received a call around 10:50 PM after a resident spotted a cougar crouched near the side of the roadway.

The feline was described as about three feet tall.

The police department issued this warning as a caution to local residents and advising everyone to use caution while walking in the area and to secure small pets and kids.

BC Conservation was advised of both incidents.
