Calling all architects… Or, at least, all the good ones. One of Victoria’s popular public attractions – Crystal Pool – is in need of a redesign and the city is looking for proposals.
New architectural designs would need to increase the facility’s capacity by nearly 35%, while still keeping up with modern environmental concerns.
Funding Still A Concern
The current estimation is a $69.4-million project, and the city has $10-million in reserves to allocate to the project.
Where the remaining funding for the project will come from remains unclear, but Mayor Lisa Helps said that “the best way to get funding is to actually have a project to fund.”
Construction is scheduled to begin in Fall 2018, with completion targeted at 2021.
In February, the City Council decided against refurbishing the 45-year old facility for costs of between $40.9 million and $57.1 million, and elected instead to rebuild.
