One BC Ferries passenger experienced an extremely frigid Monday evening, while hundreds more dealt with resulting delays on a trip between Nanaimo and Vancouver.
Around 5:45 p.m. on October 30, the Queen of Cowichan had a person go overboard. The ferry stopped to search, assisted by the Queen of Oak Bay, the Canadian Coast Guard and the Victoria Joint Rescue Coordination Centre.

Tweets and videos from passengers on board flooded social media, with many assisting in the search by visually scouring the water from the outer decks.
The Queen of Cowichan continued on its route after over an hour of searching and the woman who had allegedly jumped overboard was found 10:45 p.m., clinging to a life ring.
Stuart Irving, an air controller at the Victoria Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre, told the Times Colonist that there were some questions about the woman’s mental state.
After being rescued, she was taken to the Sea Island hovercraft base and then transported to hospital.
