Fire at Uptown business leads to evacuation and traffic delays

Share

This afternoon, at approximately 12:40 PM, Saanich Fire crews were called to the Noodlebox at Uptown Shopping Centre.

A fire had broken out in the kitchen of the eatery and, although investigations are still ongoing, it is assumed that it was an accidental grease fire.

Luckily there were no injuries, but there is close to $25,000 worth of damage to the business itself.

The second floor of the store is comprised of a daycare. Thankfully, everyone was evacuated immediately, so no one was harmed.

We spoke to Lt. Niketas, who was among the first fire crews to arrive on site.

“We got there pretty quick and that had a lot to do with it. The guys went in and they got the fire out and it didn’t spread to the second floor,” Niketas told Victoria Buzz.

Saanich PD cordoned off the area while the fire crews handled the situation. There were slight traffic delays but it has been cleared up since.
