Mount Washington will kick off ski season one week early

Share

Victorians have had to deal with a depressing amount of windy and rainy weather over the past few weeks, but the chilly temperatures and precipitation have had a positive effect too.

An extraordinary amount of snow has reached the peak of Mount Washington, which means Vancouver Island’s premier ski hill will be able to open up for a “preview weekend” from Friday, December 1st to Sunday, December 3rd.

Significant Early Season Snowfall

Mount Washington has experienced back-to-back storms accompanied by cold temperatures in November, with over 2 metres of snowfall so far for the 2017-18 winter season. The base is already over one metre, which set the stage for an early opening.

“When our live webcams broadcast the first snowstorm, we are lobbied by passionate skiers and snowboarders to get the lifts spinning.” says the Resort’s Market Manager, Sheila Rivers.

“There is nothing like the excitement of the first few storms. It has been five years since the Resort had been able to open early and we are excited to start winter operations December 1st.”

All season pass holders are welcome for the preview weekend, while day ticket users can head up for $67.

Mount Washington’s full winter operations begin Friday, December 8th.
