Nanaimo woman breaks into two bait cars on the same night

A Nanaimo woman with supremely bad judgment and even worse luck was arrested last week after breaking into two bait cars in less than half an hour.

At 5:40 am on Wednesday, November 22, Nanaimo RCMP were alerted to a theft from a Bait Car parked in central Nanaimo.

As Bait Cars have a video recording system, police were able to review the video, getting a detailed description of the suspect and the item taken.

Sixteen minutes later Nanaimo RCMP was advised of a second Bait car activation; a review of the video determined it was the same suspect from the first theft.

Within three minutes officers located and arrested the suspect. A search of items in her possession revealed the item taken from the first Bait car theft.

Also found were several pieces of Government identification and mail from nearby residences.

Of interest was a note found, which investigators refer to as her “shopping list”. On it were a list of items her friends wanted her to steal from vehicles.

Some of the items on the list included underwear, makeup, speakers, and compression socks and size 10 Nike hightops.

Court Appearance Set

33-year-old Kimberly Taylor of Nanaimo was arrested for Possession of Stolen Property and held in custody.

Later that same day Taylor was released on Recognizance of Bail for one count of Possession of Stolen Property, with her first court appearance set for Tuesday, December 5, 2017.

In a release, Nanaimo RCMP stated that “This arrest points to the strong commitment to the Bait Car program by Nanaimo Detachment and other Vancouver Island police agencies. Would be thieves are warned – Bait Cars are everywhere!”
