Tall Tree Music Festival will not be taking place in 2018 due to financial issues

This week, organizers of the beloved Port Renfrew music festival announced that Tall Tree will not be taking place this year.

For the past eight years, thousands of music lovers across B.C. have flocked to the island community to celebrate the work of countless musicians and the culture they’ve created.

However the event, which is almost entirely organized by volunteers, has been facing financial strains this past year like several other similar events in the province including Pemberton Music Festival and Rock the Shores.

“In fact, in eight years the event has yet to make a profit,” reads the statement put out by the organizers.

“That fact combined with some other challenges in 2017 mean we have decided to take a year off to re-group. Our hope is to be able to come back in 2019 and serve you, and our community, better than ever.”

They will, however, be moving forward with their planned winter festival, Song & Surf, slated for February 9th-11th, 2018.

Tickets for Song & Surf will be going on sale on November 21st.
