Vancouver Island University faces human rights complaint over diaper fetish

Share

A human-rights complaint has been filed against Vancouver Island University, alleging that it failed to protect female staff.

The complaint, filed by VIU’s former director of Human Rights and Respectful Workplace, Katrin Roth, stems from a student who brought a diaper fetish to school.

According to the Globe and Mail, the student, who was in his forties, “wished to be treated like an infant, wearing a soother around his neck, talking in a baby voice and submitting an assignment that included a photo of him in a diaper.”

Female staff said his behaviour constituted sexual harassment.

“He will not stop unless we make him,” said Roth. “I truly believe that he needs to be medically assessed as to whether he’s a risk to the community.”

VIU says they “do not agree”

VIU released a statement in response to the complaint, saying that it takes the safety of students, faculty, and staff seriously.

“While the University acknowledges the right of individuals to raise issues of concern to them, we do not agree with Ms. Roth’s characterization of the events,” they said.

The statement also revealed that the University had hired an outside lawyer to investigate the matter.
