BC Ferries might be adding a faster Wi-Fi network – for a price

Share

Commuters on BC Ferries may soon have the option to up their internet speed on the go – but it will cost them.

According to a CTV news report, the company is looking to offer its customers the alternative to upgrade to a faster, secondary tier of Wi-Fi while traveling, at a price.

BC Ferries are currently exploring options – including satellite – and talking to service providers to determine the cost and timeline of the addition.

A faster future

As anyone who has taken the ferry can attest, the current Wi-Fi speed is extremely slow and does not allow streaming services like Netflix, because its bandwidth is too small.

For users who do not wish to pay the price, the existing free Wi-Fi will still be available.

This measure is a move toward modernization, as people use the internet on more and more devices and are accustomed to high-speed connectivity.
